Below is a list of error messages, explanations on what they mean and guidelines to troubleshooting.

Note: Please note, that the main Cute Reminder's data files userdata.rem, userdata.hst and their backups userdata.rem.bak, userdata.hst.bak are located in the Cute Reminder's data folder. The typical location of the data folder is:

Windows 98/ME
C:\Windows\Profiles\USER_NAME\Application Data\CuteReminder\

Windows 2000/XP
C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\CuteReminder\

... This is an abnormal situation, which may lead to a data loss. It is recommended to close the application. Do you want to continue anyway?

Cute Reminder makes backup of your data each time it is starts and also from time to time while it is running. If it is unable to backup your data, you will get that error message. Even though a backup is not necessary for the operation of Cute Reminder, it is recommended to terminate Cute Reminder in order to prevent any possible data loss. The possible reasons of this problem are: (1) another application has opened Cute Reminder's backup file(s) userdata.rem.bak or userdata.hst.bak or (2) disk read/write failure.

... Unable to load data. Do you want to try to restore?

This message says that due to some circumstances you have lost your data: reminders, notes, ideas and/or history. The possible reasons of this problem are: (1) data files userdata.rem or userdata.hst have been deleted or are corrupted due to a disk failure or virus activity; (2) another application has opened Cute Reminder's data files. Cute Reminder will ask you whether to try to restore your data from the backup.

... Unable to restore. Do you want to delete the old data file and create a new one?

In case Cute Reminder is unable to restore your deleted/corrupted data you will get this error message. The possible reasons of this problem are: (1) another application has opened Cute Reminder's backup files userdata.rem.bak or userdata.hst.bak or (2) disk read/write failure. Creation of a new data file will totally delete the old data file and all your data: reminders, notes, ideas and/or history. You may choose to create a new data file in case you have intentionally moved your files to another place and want to create empty ones.

... Unable to create a new data file

You may get this message in case Cute Reminder can not delete the old data files userdata.rem or userdata.hst and/or if it can not create new files. The possible reasons of this problem are: (1) another application has opened Cute Reminder's data files userdata.rem or userdata.hst or (2) disk read/write failure. In case you get this message Cute Reminder will not work since it is unable to store your data on a disk.
